Dispelling Hunger Stereotypes:

Hunger is usually stereotyped as homelessness, but hunger often looks like you and me. It affects kids, single moms, fathers trying to support their family, and seniors on a fixed income. Hunger happens to everyday people, every day.

The “Don’t Label Hunger” campaign seeks to dispel these negative stereotypes about hunger. By addressing these labels head-on, we can seek to create understanding among the general public and empower people to join Feeding Tampa Bay’s mission.

As you share this message with the community, here are a few talking points:

  • Hunger is usually stereotyped as homelessness, but hunger often looks like you and me. It affects kids, single moms, fathers trying to support their family, and seniors on a fixed income.
  • Hunger happens to everyday people, every day.
  • This is why, FTB is launching a community campaign to dispel the damaging stereotypes of hunger and call for support in reducing the number of those going hungry in Tampa Bay.
  • Feeding Tampa Bay is leading local hunger relief efforts. Every month, they deliver 3 million meals to people in need, but that’s only half of the current need.
  • For less than the cost of your Netflix subscription, you can feed a neighbor for an entire month. Only $6 provides someone with enough meals for the month.
