As a student and full-time single working mom of two beautiful girls, ages 5 and 11, making ends meet is a constant challenge. I grew up dealing with food insecurity and unfortunately continue to face similar setbacks as an adult. I’m grateful to have access to local food pantries and friendly neighbors- they help my little family get by. It’s a constant fear not knowing where my next meal will come from, and I work hard to stay healthy and provide for my girls so that they don’t have to worry about that. But I don’t just want to teach my girls to accept a hand out. I want them to know how good it feels to give back too! Once a month I cook a meal to share with my neighbors. I have seen first hand the impact food relief can have on a struggling population and hope to start a soup kitchen someday.
