At Feeding Tampa Bay, we are driven by a responsibility to uplift our community. That is, we’re committed to ensuring that all of our neighbors have access to the resources needed to live healthy, sustainable lives free from hunger. As an expression of this commitment to you all, we’ve chosen to add Recite Me accessibility tools to our website. 1 in 4 people in the U.S. have some sort of disability, including common conditions like sight loss and dyslexia. Moreover, 1 in 5 people speak a language other than English at home. Our inclusion of the new Recite Me toolbar aims to streamline your experience seeking resources we provide or even simply interacting more fully with us. The bottom line is that we want to make this website accessible and inclusive for as many people as possible.
The Recite Me toolbar is a comprehensive software that allows you to view and use our website in a way that works best for you. With its unique range of functions, you can:
- Read website text aloud (including PDFs)
- Download the text as an MP3 file to play it where and when it suits you
- Change font sizes and colors
- Customize background color
- Translate text into more than 100 different languages
- Access a fully integrated dictionary and thesaurus
Accessing and Using the Recite Me Toolbar
To open the Recite Me toolbar, you can click the “Accessibility Tools” button on the bottom right corner of the page. This button now appears in the same spot on every page of our website. Once you click it, the ReciteMe toolbar will appear along the top of your screen, displaying a wide range of options that allow you to customize the way you interact with our website.
Play Audio
- Back: Rewind to the previous paragraph of text
- Play: click the play button to read the text aloud
- Forward: Skip forward to the next paragraph of text
Text Options
- Decrease: This will decrease the text size
- Font: This allows you to change the font on the page
- Increase: This will increase the text size
Color, Ruler, and Screen Mask
- Color: Change the background, text, and link colors.
- Ruler: Click to enable the reading ruler
- Screen Mask: This will create a letterbox for focused viewing of a section of the page
Dictionary and Translation
- Dictionary: Highlight word(s) and click on this to find the definition
- Language: Translate text into a different language
Plain Text Mode, Audio Downloads, and Magnifier
- Text Mode: Remove symbols and images to view in plain text mode
- Download Audio: Highlight text then click this button to download that text as an audio file for later listening.
- Magnifier: Click and drag the magnifying glass across the screen to enlarge the desired portion of the screen.
Settings
- Settings: Adjust your toolbar settings, like autoplay and reading speed.
- Reset: This button will restore the page to its default settings
- User Guide: This will give you an overview of the Recite Me features
